A barrier-first routine for Karachi humidity
Sweat, sunscreen and city air are hard on your skin barrier. Here's the pared-back routine that holds up.
In a humid coastal climate your skin isn't dry — it's compromised. Heat and sweat strip the barrier, then you layer sunscreen and city grime on top of it. The instinct is to scrub and strip further. The fix is the opposite: clean gently, repair, protect, and stop there.
Cleanse without stripping
A low-pH gel cleanser removes sweat and SPF without that tight, squeaky feeling — which is the sound of a stripped barrier, not a clean one. Once in the morning to reset, once at night to take the day off. Skip the second harsh wash you were tempted to add.
Repair before you treat
Ceramides and a light occlusive rebuild what the day took out. In humidity you want comfort without heaviness, so a barrier moisturiser that absorbs rather than sits is the whole game. Give your skin two weeks of just this before you introduce anything active — a calm barrier tolerates actives far better than a raw one.
Protect, every single morning
None of the above survives ten minutes of unprotected sun. A featherweight SPF 50 that doesn't pill under humidity is the one non-negotiable step. Reapply when you can; wear it even when it's overcast.
